Satisfying our own curiosity through experiments: the Festival's workshops give anybody the chance to become a scientific researcher for one day and personally verify scientific theories, thus discovering their applications in the most unusual sectors of everyday life, such as cooking or even robotics.
Let’s Play With Robots
Suitable from 6 years of age. Recommended for schools.
A robot butler will welcome and introduce you at the workshop. You’ll have the chance to manage a swarm of robots, build them up, programme them so that they can play football, drive them from the distance, teach them how to move on a platform and make them react to external inputs.
(Project followed by CNR’s Institute for Didactic Technologies)
Mathfitness
Suitable from 6 years of age. Recommended for schools.
Mathfitness doubles! The activities promoted by the mathematics gym will be present both at Mathfitness headquarter, where it will be possible to try some of the 300 and more activities (and it is you to decide what to try!), and at an interactive workshop on a new stimulating theme: ethnomaths. Games and experiments will make you learn something about existing studies on different mathematical practices as they have developed all around the world. So…green light for spontaneous percussions concerts, African geometric games, the discovery of Inca accounting, Chinese shadows and Egyptians mathematical papyri.
(Project followed by CNR-PSC and Palazzo Ducale).
(Not) Playing with Fire
Suitable from 10 years of age. Recommended for schools
Playing with fire is dangerous, but at the Festival it is not: under the careful eyes of the Fire Brigade and with a well protecting equipment, for once in your life you will have the chance to play with flames and fires, learn something about them and be taught on how to stop flames. Following a guided path you will learn how to distinguish the different phases, phenomena and risks linked to the fire. In the end, into the Main Fire Station you will have the possibility to jump on the ladder truck and the fire truck/tank. You will personally try to extinguish a fire by means of fire-extinguishers and hydrants, and follow the path of a fire, from lighting to fighting.
(Project followed by Genoa’s Fire Brigade, control station of the Province)
Avoiding to Waste: Let’s Explore Different Sorts of Energy, their Transformations and Applications
Suitable from 10 years of age. Recommended for schools
This fun team "energy game" will teach you how to know and save energy. You will be able to use different renewable sources of energy and to chose among dynamo, photovoltaic, pressure jumps and aerodynamics. You will compete by choosing the most appropriate energy in order to activate the different machines you'll meet. A project whose main purpose is to increase your knowledge about different sources of energy and raise awareness about their use.
(Project followed by Balì Museum Foundation, Pesaro Urbino)
Forensic Police
Suitable from 11 years of age. Recommended for schools
A series of meetings with Genoa’s Forensic Police will let you discover, day by day, the secrets of a real detective. You will learn about biology, genetics, chemistry, physics, computer science, an interdisciplinary mix that will teach you how to take fingerprints, how to do a DNA or a drug test and how to conduct a ballistic investigation.
(Project followed by the National Police, Forensic Police, Forensic Police Regional Department - Ligury)
The Flavours of Science
Science in the Kitchen and Science of Taste
Suitable from 11 years of age. Recommended for schools.
The flavours of Science is a rich and complex experimental project on food education that will make you discover unimaginable interactions between science and cooking.
One of the most important part, Science in the kitchen, is back again after the huge success of last year: 13 involving workshop-conferences where cooks and scientists will cook together, thus showing you the secret links between formulas and receipts.
Science of taste will lead you to know row materials through a series of workshops, exhibitions, performing arts and dinners where you’ll learn how to exalt properties and flavours. You will be taught about the secrets of transformations occurring in food storage.
(Project followed by CNR-PSC with the participation of the Municipality of Genoa – Community Services, Education and Catering Department).
