The Workshops of MathFitness – Ethnomathematics
Discovering the Roots of Mathematics
How do you demonstrate Pythagoras's Theorem in Chinese? It’s not just a matter of language, but also of methods. MathFitness introduces this topic and others thanks to a journey in Ethnomaths, a study of different mathematical practices as they have developed all over the world. Improvised African percussion concerts, the sacred regard for numbers which Indians hold, the discovery of Inca book-keeping, Chinese shadows and Egyptian mathematical papyri all get the green light! We will travel through time up to the present, with the explosion of the concept of infinity and beyond!
